12.7.4.3 unclear on what type(s) of fields it applies to
12.7.4.3, Variable Text, is about how to create the appearance stream(s) for fields. It states:
When the contents and properties of a field are known in advance, its visual appearance can be specified by an appearance stream defined in the PDF file (see 12.5.5, "Appearance streams" and 12.5.6.19, "Widget annotations"). In some cases, however, the field may contain text whose value is not known until viewing time.
What it doesn't make clear is what types of fields this applies to? Is it only text fields or does it also apply to Choice Fields and Signatures Fields?
In a related fashion, is there a need to specify appearance creation rules for Check boxes & radio buttons? And if so, then how does DA and DR apply?
Is it only text fields or does it also apply to Choice Fields and Signatures Fields?
I proposed that 32K make it clear that this clause only applies to Text and Choice fields.
As far as a normative description of appearance creation - we have frequently agreed to NOT do that. However, maybe it is time to consider informative documentation.
