Allow extending the bocage with a custom node type

Downstream libraries, most importantly Panini, should be able to declare their own node types. It is yet unclear whether this will help reduce memory use.

Looking to the other side of the tradeoff, this addition would increase parameterization in places where code already is heavily parameterized.
