Security

Hey,

so how secure is the system? I'm thinking right now what if someone duplicates a RFID tag. Can he/she then use both tags? Can this be prevented with one time keys?

Thanks!

hi @KuenzelIT – I haven't fully considered the implications of security for pi-lock, however I don't think duplicating an RFID tag is a common occurrence. That said, security is a big issue for pi-lock and it does require quite a bit more work to get it in a good state.

@KuenzelIT The Pi-Lock would need to utilize a PIN pad with unique PINs for personnel. This is the standard in the security industry and would remove the duplicate RFID tag from the situation.

Sadly this promising project has not moved for years. A PIN is not a good solution where you have to frequently open doors. In order to create a security issue it's enough someone programs his android phone. Some of them use 01:02:03:04 as the UID. Many users will not check their own ID. So anyone with the same ID will be able to enter...
