Request: Compatability with Motorola XPR IP stack
Howdy,
ATAK Forwarder already accomplishes so much with communicating with ATAK and with a Meshtastic device. One thing that I have not seen done is a Bluetooth SPP connection to a Motorola XPR radio with a built in IP stack. The later XPR radios have Bluetooth data sharing capabilities that allow for voice and data to be sent across the radio. In my opinion, this shouldn't be too hard to integrate into ATAK forwarder.
This is kind of a tall ask, but this could potentially offer better solutions to consumers and SAR teams that already have Motorola XPR radios!
Can you recommend a set of hardware that I can purchase to develop this against? It doesn't necessarily have to be a radio if there's some cheaper hardware I can validate my code against that would work too.
In order to fully integrate with the radio, It would be best in order to get the actual hardware. Right now the cheapest radio in order to test direct USB tethering and Bluetooth SPP is the XPR 3500e or the XPR 7550 non e radios. In order to use USB tethering, you will need the programming cable. Bluetooth data is possible however I personally have not figured it out yet. In order to push data via Bluetooth, you need to enable the feature. I can help facilitate adding this feature as well as getting the software needed for your testing.
Hi, I´m very interested on it. I couldnt mount on my own the atak development enviroment to try to develop my own connection pluging. On the other hand i have a lot of XPR 7550 with connection cables or BLE to test your aprogress if will be available. We could collaborate and give you feedback about. Regards.
Not to derail any progress, but older models of the mototrbo like the 6550 and 4550 can also send data, but over the channels.
It would be great if the gps info that the radios already send over the data channel could be sent to the TAK server as well.
This may be a separate request, but I think that the partial functionality would help a LOT of groups with the older radios still in deployment.
I could assist with hardware and radio programming, but not coding.
I have a 3550e which could be used to help test with both ATAK and iTAK on mobile devices. Please let me know how or if I can assist in any testing. I can do Motorola programming.
