I'm aware of this issue and am looking into the cause. I had thought it was due to adding the dkms module for the bmi160 but that wasn't the reason....
There hasn't been a new image released in some time. Did you by chance upgrade to unstable or attempt to use pacman -Syu?
What is t he speed of your USB Hub? We've seen this issue when using HHD's and slower USB 2.0 media.
What specific hardware are you using?
We've seen some serious hitching with the 3000 series specifically in ChimeraOS. I'm not yet sure what the cause might be. I don't have the same issue when running EndeavourOS...

How much space does this package and its dependencies take up when installed?
We should add SSD as a minimum requirement for OS partition. HDD and SD/flash media are frequently failing
I don't think we can disable steam input by default for just retroarch unfortunately. I'll brainstorm on a solution though.
