Lower volume of beeping

Open jtrees opened this issue 6 years ago • 6 comments

When the timer finishes I usually fall out of my chair because it's so much louder than everything else. Would it be possible to lower the volume or alternatively make the volume configurable for the app?

Second that. Volume control preference is much needed here. And an option to choose a sound for each separate timer would be awesome (because different timers are used for very different purposes - cooking/work/meditation, etc.)

Hi, i increased the volume long ago after a user request. But i am open to tweak it. Can one of you master the sound file https://github.com/parnold-x/timer/blob/master/data/beep.wav to the right level and make a PR. Thanks

I sure can - but I very much vote to make the beep volume user-configurable (i.e. by volume slider from inside the Timer preferences) rather than permanently remastered via external sound editor. Because some users would like the beeping to be louder (e.g., hearing-impaired people), while others would prefer quieter audio alarm. Is it possible to implement beep volume user preference in Timer?

Possible sure. But I want to keep the app simple without too much settings. I will add a gsetting though.

Thanks! I agree, too much settings isn't great, but almost no settings isn't great either :)

I know that elementary OS devs strongly promote simplicity, and that's well and good - until simplicity turns into oversimplification / lack of features.

Played around a bit with playbin. Somehow it ignores the volume state.
