intermittent freezing
I use this extension on three notebooks, all of which run Ubuntu 20.04 LTS:
- Dell Vostro 3460: cpu intel core i7-3612qm quad-core 2.1ghz; 8 GB of RAM; gpu intel hd graphics 4000 + nvidia geforce gt 630m
- Dell Inspiron 7520: cpu intel core i7-3612qm quad-core 2.1ghz; 8 GB of RAM; gpu: intel 3rd gen core graphics + amd radeon hd 7730m
- Lenovo Ideapad Z360: cpu intel core i5 460m dual-core 2.53 GHz; 4 GB of RAM; graphics: Intel GMA HD
Even though these are old comptuers, I had no issues with the extension on computers 2 and 3. Note that computer 2 has similar specs to computer 1, except for the discrete graphics card. Also note that computer 3 has a much lower spec than computers 1 and 2.
However, on computer 1 I started experiencing intermittent freezing immediately after installing the extension. As soon as I turned the extension off on gnome tweaks, the intermittent freezing was gone.
By "intermittent freezing" I mean that the computer screen and audio freezes for a fraction of a second and then resumes, and this happens every 4 seconds or so, even if there is no apps running and I am simply moving the mouse on the screen.
I also have a similar issue. But in my case the freezing happens when I connect mu USB network adapter R8188EU. When it tries to connect to a know network gnome freezes for the whole period (~4 s). Disabling this extension solves the issue. Found the solution / connection in this post: link
Thanks for this. I am experiencing these freezes myself, for up to two minutes when clicking on the extension to reveal my network drives' size and free storage.
Just my observations: This did not happen to me when I was using wifi only. When I plugged in my ethernet adapter this freezing began. So by observation it seems not to be the extension itself, but the system's handling of the mounted network drives. If this extension could somewhat disable the check of avalible space it might not happen.
