Question: how does pancakeswap decide the path for swapping?

I swapped BNB for ZIL and Pancakeswap integrated USDT in the middle (path). Why is that? There is enough in the reserves of BNB_ZIL pair.

If I wanted to trade BNB for ZIL, how would I know that I should integrate USDT in the path?
