[BUG] Notifications not working at all

Current Behavior

I am testing the Session app out. I have installed the Google Play store and used the google services notifications pulling option. Then, went and installed the Desktop program on my PC. I have added the PC account to my phone and sent messages. That works without issues. Though if the Android app is closed or minimized I do not receive notifications at all.

Expected Behavior

The app should notify me of new messages.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Install Android app.
  2. Install desktop program.
  3. Use google services option on Android app for notifications.
  4. Create a new account on both the desktop and cellphone.
  5. Scan the Qrcode of my desktop account into my phone.
  6. Send a message and accept contact on desktop.
  7. Close or minimize the Android app.
  8. Send a message from desktop account to phone account.
  9. No notifications.

Android Version

Android 10

Session Version

1.17.5

Anything else?

Other messaging apps work. I receive notifications on Signal app almost instantly, for example.

Just to double check, is your android OS a minified or de-googled or huawei version, without google services available? Also is there a permission for notifications in the app settings that is missing potentially?

@0x330a The phone already came with Google Play installed. It is a TCL 10L phone if you need the model. I am not sure which settings you are referring to. In the app itself (from within the app), on Notification setting, Use Fast Mode is enabled. When I go to notification settings by using "Go to device notification settings" option, everything is enabled. As for the app permissons I see Camera and Microphone on allowed while Storage on denied. I have went into battery optimization settings and disabled optimization for this app too. Note that Signal works perfectly. I get notifications on it almost instantly

Can we have logs from your device? might reveal issues with connection to notifications server or something else.

Also, regarding the test case which you explained, were the desktop and phone added as linked devices or do they both have a unique Session ID?

@KeeJef Thank you for the response. Where do I acquire the logs? Both desktop and phone accounts were different. I did not even know you could link the devices. I would love for the issue regarding notifications to be resolved so that I use session as one of my main messaging apps. If you I can provide a discord account so we can troubleshoot the issue in real time.

Logs can be found in the Session settings menu. Settings -> Help -> Report a bug -> Export Logs. If your provide your logs in this issue it will help us see if there are any obvious issues with connection to the PN server

I too am having issues with notifications on Android. I have had notifications but most of the time I don't get them. I wanted to track this thread to see if there is a solution. I currently have them set to Fast notifications. I don't get many Session messages but I often have to be told by other means to open the app
