Battery drain (on Android 15 ?)
Hi,
i recently changed from Realme GT neo2 (Android 13) to Google Pixel 8a (Android 15).
With the neo2 i was happy with the tracking and battery life, so i set up the same settings on the Pixel. But the problem is when i compare the usage of owntracks in comparison to other apps its using so much more power than the other apps, which was not the case with the neo2.
Is there any known issue with the Pixel or the Android 15 version?
To compare i am using on both devices, Owntracks, Life360 and HomeAssistant to track. Owntracks is on the Pixel by far using the most power, even more when i am driving.
I use MQTT with websockets and only Significant Changes Mode.
I'm having the same issue with my Google Pixel 9 Pro XL running Graphene OS. I've noticed significant battery drain during the night.
I usually take my phone off the charger at 80%, and by the time I wake up after 6-8 hours of sleep, the battery percentage drops to around 40%. For context, OwnTracks is set to 'Quiet'.
I'm having the same problem. I'm having owntracks reporting location to my Home Assistant instance via http, while being set to 'quiet'; and at night the battery drops by 9-10%. Without the owntrack app the battery doesn't drop by a single percentage.
Are you using the GMS or OSS version of the android app? Google Play version is more efficient. https://github.com/owntracks/android/discussions/1276
I don't have a device with GrapheneOS I can test on, so this is hard to reproduce without a lot more data.
By means of comparison, I've had OT running all day on my Pixel 8a (regular Google android), and it's used 15% of the battery life whilst using 9 minutes of screen time and 9 hours 44 minutes of background time. Interestingly, Google Maps accounts for 13% of my battery usage despite having "less than a minute" of background usage.
Marking issue with request for more data as stale, due to no updates.

I was using the F-Droid version, but I'm trying out the Google Play version atm. I'll provide an update shortly.
