Maybe it would be an idea to not only show videos, but other media types as well, at least in the overview mode.
In the current implementation, if you have a directory that has multiple types of media, you can send a link to the gallery, but users will not see that there are other files besides images in the directory, or you can send the 'normal' link, but then you need to explicitly point them to the button in order for them to use the gallery app.
The gallery might show the same svg icons in the overview as in the list view, and skip unviewable items in detail view.
