Rework how to add new details

Open jancborchardt opened this issue 9 years ago • 1 comments

Currently you need to use the very strange dropdown in the bottom to use any kind of new field.

Instead we should do it like iOS and Android (and probably others) that the normal sets of fields like phone number, email, address etc have an entry directly below to »Add new phone number« etc. These sets of fields should of course be visually separated by whitespace and also need a header. Which we are missing anyway at the moment, which makes it very confusing.

Then the dropdown at the bottom would only be used for adding fields which are not the defaults, like notes, anniversary etc.

@jancborchardt Indeed, Outlook, Gmail, Zimbra, Yahoo all use that kind of system.

The sections might be:

(Untitled header) [Name, organisation details, image] Tel [e.g. Tel, Mobile, VoIP, Fax, Pager, SMS and labels Personal/Business/Other] Email [e.g. personal, business, fax-email, etc...] Address [e.g. personal, business, delivery, location] Messaging [e.g. Instant Messaging usernames] Social [account details per profile] Web [URLs personal, business, gallery, schedule, free-busy] Dates [birthdate, anniversary, deathdate, membership] Notes Add more.. [Kind, Related, Interests, Gender, Account, Timezone, Birthplace, Encryption key, Class (data sensitivity), Expertise, Hobby, Household, Role; and Logo, Sound, Agent, Deathdate]

Notes should be default field. In phone entry it often isn't, due to the restrictions of space and being harder to enter data via a mobile interface or on the move. However, in most web and desktop software equivalents, Notes is a (very useful) default field. Just a single line (obviously expandable as one types) would be ideal.
