User story

As a customer, I want to test and deploy managed ClickHouse instances in OVH Public Cloud easily so that I'm sure this service will fit my needs, I will gain time, and focus on my own job.

Acceptance criterias

• I can launch new ClickHouse instances via control panel / API
• Basic management via control panel / API (manage users, manage ACL, logs, metrics, ...)
• Daily backups (one local and one remote)
• Pay as you go
• Private or Public network
• Fast performances
• Tiered Storage with hot data on block storage and warm data on object storage
• Available in Paris 3AZ
• Not available in Single AZ regions

Quick update on ClickHouse: we are assessing the technical feasibility and beginning to work on the legal and business aspect of this new engine. These preliminary activities should be done in a couple of months and we should be able to move on the deployment and release of the engine by September, meaning a release in the last quarter of 2024.

I wanted to know, what exactly is the meaning of "Managed Clickhouse" instances here? Will it only be the features mentioned above? Would it also include auto horizontal scalability options like adding more shards, etc?

Also wanted to understand, if there is any cookbook if I want it to do currently.

Wanted to clarify, I have never used OVHCloud and am currently exploring options.

Hey, our databases & analytics and offering is based on Aiven so you'll find in OVHcloud part of their solution. I'll suggest to check the Aiven website for more information (https://aiven.io/clickhouse) while we prepare our own documentation and website.

Hey there, that sound a fantastic news. Is there any timeframe in mind: I need CH now, should I deploy my own cluster and migrate later, or should I wait for the managed products?

Hello @Segfaultd, we are targetting a release not before February. The tech is ready for nominal use case but we need to work on some use cases around S3 like storage tiering and federated queries.

Hello @fredczj we were hoping to release a Managed ClickHouse product during Spring but unfortunatly we had reschedule for this summer.

Hello @luflow - still working on it. We have identified some dependencies with Object Storage that we need to solve so that we could enable the tiered storage out of the box.

To enable ClickHouse at the best price we need to leverage the Object Storage but unfortunately we have currently two issues that forbid that. The first one is regarding bucket policies and how to apply them, we need to properly secure bucket access to avoid security incident. The second one is more tied to API version we need to update so that we are future-proof.

We have synched with our dear colleagues working on the Object Storage so that we could deliver ClickHouse asap.

Good news is a fix is underway for bucket policies so that we could move forward with Aiven.

ClickHouse is scheduled before the end of 2025. We will only deploy in Paris 3AZ due to some limitations on Single AZ regions.

The technical limitation that I have mentioned earlier have been solved and are now working on prices.

Hello folks.

ClickHouse is still scheduled for the end of 2025 in Paris 3AZ only for the moment.

• Production Range on 3 nodes and 1 shard from B3-8 to B3-128
• Advanced Range on 6 nodes and 2 shards from B3-8 to B3-128

Storage will start at 100 GB and scale as high as 40 TB. You'll be able to setup storage tiering for savings so that your "hot" data are on high perf Block Storage and your "warm" data on Object Storage.

We are planning to launch a single node offering for testing, preproduction or small prod not requiring high available or SLA. Expect that in early 2026.

Some news as we have adjusted the schedule. ClickHouse should be released in January. Just a little patience.

Also we have rescoped the release a little to focus on the Production Range and the block storage. The Advanced plan will come later with the tiered storage.
