LaTeX output enhancement: mathematical syntax

Open paulch42 opened this issue 8 years ago • 3 comments

Overture employs the ASCII syntax for model editing and output to TeX/PDF. If would be useful if the Latex menu item provided the option to generate TeX/PDF in the mathematical syntax. Depending on the familiarity of the reader, the conciseness of the mathematical notation and the hints provided by symbols can be easier to read and interpret.

@pglvdm I think someone already did a bit of work on this?

Well I also seem to recall that there was a student looking at this a long time ago, but I think that that bit of code has been removed again (also because it wasn't completed). However, it wouldn't in principle be difficult to make. At the moment my recommendation is to use VDMTools if one with to get the mathematical version produced for a model using LaTeX.

Another useful enhancement to the LaTeX output would be the ability to select a subset of modules. At present it is only possible to select the project and generate LaTeX, which can be quite a significant document for large specifications. It would be useful if it was possible to select any node under a project in the VDM Explorer view (down to individual modules) and generate the LaTeX for only the items rooted at the selected node.
