Set warning flags on student visa status or payment ineligibility

Open sagesharp opened this issue 6 years ago • 1 comments

When we have an initial application, we ask the following questions:

  1. Do you have a student visa which restricts the number of hours you can work?
  2. Are you a U.S. resident or national?
  3. Will you be living in the United States during the internship period?

If they answer yes to 1, or no to 2 and yes to 3, they may not be eligible to fill out a W-9 or W8-BEN. All Outreachy interns must be able to fill out a W-9 or W8-BEN in order to be paid by Software Freedom Conservancy. We cannot accept interns who cannot be paid.

People reviewing initial applications should be able to see the answers to these questions. There should be a warning flag set if 1 is yes, or 2 is no and 3 is yes.

Is it safe to interpret the conditions for setting warning flags you gave above as

  • When 1 is yes, irrespective of what 2 and 3 are.
  • When 2 is no and 3 is yes, irrespective of what 1 is.

What happens when 2 and 3 are yes or, 2 is yes and 3 is no? 1 is no in both instances just above this statement.
