Bugginess around creating pointer import

I think this may be new since switching from showing pointers as "$3" to "3", but not sure.

I made the pointer, typed left arrow, then started typing the "l"s:

(Note that also the text entry jumped up to the previous line once I started typing "l"s, not sure whether that's related)
