Sun direction attributes
Knowledge of the sun direction an image is taken under can be of value to interpret shadows in imagery - editors could offer tools to measure the height of structures based on their shadows or could in general offer visual aids to determine the relationship between shadows and the objects casting them.
It might be useful to store such information where available for the image layers. I have added this info to all single source satellite image layers of mine now:
https://imagico.de/map/osmim_tiles.php?layer=S2B_R143_S7X_20200302T215359
If this is added to the schema here i can also include it in the ELI geojson.
Hi Christoph,
This might be putting the carriage before the horse a bit. Can you first check with the various authors of editors if they want to add this property?
Sure.
Ultimately this is of course likely a bit of a hen-and-egg problem.
A different perspective is a desire for imagery captured at noon, in order to avoid shadows to have the area well-lit.
I've seen examples of features being missed (or added incorrectly, in the case of building outline shape) due to that part of the image being in shadow.
