Support adding some items to cargo

It would be nice to have a cargo hold to put paste, cap boosters, extra charges, drugs, etc. The charge presets are good for checking how the stats change with different drones / charges loaded, but at some point you need to figure out how many cap boosters and extra ammo will fit in the cargo at undock.

I'm sorry, but no. We decided against this very early while drafting up the CLF specification.

It's just not useful enough for the complexity it would add. You can already add multiple charges, boosters, etc. with presets. As far as capacity goes, it's not as simple as it seems, since you can use containers in your cargo hold to increase effective capacity (up to a point). So we would have to implement a full blown inventory management logic (for example, some items won't go inside containers, like other assembled containers, or some fragile items etc.).

If someone wants to work on this, contact me before so we can at least agree on how to extend the common loadout format.

I'd like to add a request here for at least basic cargo options. Please don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good here - I think it'd be fine to just say that containers aren't supported, in order to have basic support for being able to include some of the "standard" cargo, e.g. spare ammo types, extra paste/bubbles/boosters, etc.

Osmium is a useful tool for sharing fits, but the inability to include suggested extra items like the above means that it can only ever be at best supplemental to some other canonical recommendation.

Is there really a use case for proper cargo management that can't already be done with presets (for spare ammo types, or just hotswap with the context menu) or with the description (ie just put in the description what you would put in the cargo hold)?

As far as I know, dogma doesn't care about stuff you have in your cargo, so you can just get away by putting a list of types in the description.

I will admit that I don't know the capabilities of presets; they're rather inscrutable to me and I can't find any documentation on them. Perhaps the issue is simply that the preset interface is too complex to be convenient; I don't know.

Putting things in the description results in people ignoring them because they often don't look at the description tab.

It's also useful to have a basic estimate of how much I can fit in the cargo - even if it's not perfect and doesn't handle corner cases like cargo containers, just being able to tell that I can fit at most 28 navy cap booster 800s or whatever without having to do the math by hand is useful.

It would be really nice to have basic cargo loadouts. Definitely don't waste your time supporting containers unless it seems like a great idea in the future when you have nothing else to work on.

All people want is a reminder to "put a mobile depot and a tank refit in the cargo" or to "carry these four types of ammo" or "don't forget the paste for your AAR". A simple cargo space check (with support for expanders) is all that'd be needed.

I would love basic cargo support as well. Mostly so that fits I copy and import directly into eve for "Buy All" would include the ammo and other random items.

It would also be fantastic if ammo/charges in the cargo hold would indicate how long that quantity would last if continuously fired.

+1 For above. The new 'Buy All' feature for imported fits makes this extremely useful, so that my fits can include all the miscellaneous crap I would normally bring, and it would buy it. Otherwise, I still have to look at the fit and decide what extras I still need to bring.

Sorry for the double post, but I had another idea for better supporting the 'Buy All' feature. Make an option that, when exporting directly to the recommended eve-consumable format (XML+gzCLF, and later, I assume via CREST), all items needed to use all other presets would be added as items in the cargohold as well. That way, you should already have support for most items.

The only things I can think of that are missing from this would be ones like Mobile Depots, Mobile Tractor Units, etc., since they are not fit. Additionally, the quantities of everything would be based on the number used in the fit, rather than variations of what you can hold in cargo, but nonetheless, would work (people can always grab more of an item pretty easily, in comparison to forgetting it altogether).
