Do you mean you're looking for the name of a station? Can you provide an example?

I'm looking for a railway: 'Ammertalbahn'. I can find a station: http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/30408053 But i can't find the railway 'Ammertalbahn', which is at this station. If i search for this railway, i got a street, not the railway, which i want.

quick research:

railway=rail (http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/293327487) gets imported to the place table, but seem to get filtered during indexing at https://github.com/twain47/Nominatim/blob/9fb2bf36be7edf63720a4b2514d3e8ab9173558f/sql/functions.sql#L969

thanks for your anser, but it didn't solve my problem. maybe, my example is bad. let me try to discribe it in another way:

i'm still looking for the rail 'Ammertalbahn' in nominatim. if i ask with this term, i got this solution: http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/search.php?q=Ammertalbahn&polygon=1&viewbox= the map shows a street and not the rail some meters in south way. and nominatim find no alternatives.

i hope you can understand my terrible english.

@mtmail thanks for finding the relevant code part. I'm reluctant to remove the restriction on railways exactly for the same reasons mentioned for route relations in #413. The name tags rarely contain an actual name and more often than not a route description. This interferes badly with the rest of the search. We need better tokenization first.

So currently there is no way you can find a railway? Both train route relations and ways tagged with railway rail are filtered out? This is kind of sad for all mappers who create relations and carefully tag them with correct names.

I actually understand that you may want to exclude ways tagged railway rail. Not because of the bad names, but because of the number of results. However, I think it's time to reconsider the decision to not include (train) routes.

And on openstreetmap.org you have some "nice" side effects of the filtering. You can find all disused railways, but not the active one. (I just tested in Norway and compared Kragerøbanen (disused) to Dovrebanen, the main line.)
