I have the same issue, and the same error on my Canon EOS 200D. MacOS 10.15.6 Catalina

For those looking to use this with newer/unsupported cameras note that it seems cameras after about 2014 use a different method internally by Canon to store this information and it is inaccessible via the previous (hacked) methods. e.g. a 7D Mark II will work, as will many of that era or earlier, but newer cameras will not work.

Any other option on how to find the shutter count on Mac?
