Should multiple inscriptions on the same sat be possible?

We should approach this issue carefully, since inscriptions cannot be removed.

Ideas:

• No. Once a sat has been inscribed it cannot be re-inscribed.
• No. Once a sat has been inscribed it cannot be re-inscribed. But, if a transaction tries to inscribe a sat multiple times, those additional inscriptions will still be reference-able by inscription ID, they just won't be on a particular sat.
• Yes. Show inscriptions on same sat with equal prominence.
• Yes. Show inscriptions after the first with less prominence, like comments.
• Yes, but you can only do so in a single transaction. Further transactions will not inscribe.

I'm leaning towards no. If you want to have a list of things, you can use a collection. And you can already use an inscribed ordinal as a prime ordinal, so if you want things to appear on that ordinals page, then you can just do that.

Yes, it should be possible, because otherwise you need to know all previous inscriptions to know if an inscription is valid, which we want to avoid to keep consensus for features like symbols. #884 covers the issue of defacing inscriptions with other inscriptions.

There's an issue with allowing multiple inscriptions per sat: If you use a sat as the prime sat to create an inscription, and that sat has multiple inscriptions on it, which inscription on the prime sat is the collection/artist? Only allowing one inscription per sat neatly sidesteps this issue.

But we have to consider HTML inscriptions where you want to include a bunch of files in one inscription. The natural way to do this is with multiple inscriptions on the same sat. So maybe allowing multiple inscriptions on the same sat, but not displaying them with equal prominence, perhaps behind a link, is the answer.

Another purpose for multiple inscriptions on a sat might be to collect artist's signatures at a later time. Ie. an artist mints a limited edition set of inscriptions of their work. You purchase one and then see the artist give a live talk where they offer to "sign" your sat in some way (perhaps by providing you a signed message unique to that sat that you then inscribe on the already inscribed sat.

Binding multiple inscriptions onto the same sat would be desirable for several reasons - from the perspective of a collection owner it would allow us to deliver incentives to owners and ensure the related inscriptions always move together when transferred.
