Too broad exception clause in translator query method

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. The query method of the SQL translator catches any exception thrown by the driver when executing the query which isn't optimal.

Describe the solution you'd like Pick out relevant exception scenarios so that each error condition gets handled according to its cause and an informative message gets returned to the client.

Describe alternatives you've considered #371 implemented a stopgap solution where at least we log an error. It could be this is the best we could do, i.e. there's no easy way to implement the above.
