At the moment we still support numpy ≥ 1.23.2 https://github.com/MDAnalysis/mdanalysis/blob/59e478db53ffb974fe94539bfc520c84a1946e72/package/pyproject.toml#L32 so we cannot use features only available in numpy 2.0+. I am not sure when we will stop supporting numpy...
Good to know, perhaps we should just mention it in the docs for any LAMMPS users. We could also make the error message be clearer. Reading through the [H5MD Units...
I am labeling this failure as a defect because LAMMPS adheres to the H5MD standard and we should be able to read standard-compliant H5MD files.
I'd be ok with changing tests but adding a note to docs.
FYI, upstream distopia 0.3.0 release is currently breaking all tests, see #4739 .
@hmacdope did you look further into the copy vs in-place issue?
Ok! I think getting this one working will be important for a MDA paper.
@hmacdope I resolved the merge conflicts but please double-check that I didn't miss anything.
Something is not right with the macos-13 tests — they timed out at 55 mins and they are again taking much longer than all the other runners.
@hmacdope any bandwidth to get this one done soon-ish? It would be really good to have it in to finish one of the performance track items.
