Cannot perform this action when Quick Search is not enabled
When I hit the key assigned to "Show messages with same sender/same subject" I get a message that pops up saying:
Nostalgy error:
Cannot perform this action when Quick Search is not enabled
That seems to tie to this line of code: https://github.com/opto/nostalgy-xpi/blob/42c9817cd495d2b80a1733a5bfb525e7a1f586a4/chrome/content/nostalgy.js#L856
What is the message telling me I need to do? I have tried all sorts of the things to get it to work, and so far nothing is working.
Thanks
yes, a workaround is to install my addon quicker quicksearch
@opto Thank you. However, it is installed and I still get that message. Any ideas? Thanks!
Same here.
Same issue. Quicker Quicksearch is installed and working but the tilde "`" gives the same error message.
Same here. Workaround is not working :(
it is a different letter combination there. Either by context menu on the message, or you can set letter combination in general addon settings

@opto Thanks for the input and the hard work. I have changed the keyboard shortcut for this to several different things (currently at Ctrl+Q) and I still get that error.
installing quicker quicksearch into a clean TB 115 with Nostalgy, then
Ctrl+Alt+B: copy author to quicksearch box Ctrl+Alt+N: copy domain to quicksearch box Ctrl+Alt+H: copy subjectto quicksearch box
do work
they can be changed: extra-addons-cog symbol - change keys (or however that is called in English, Tastenkombinationen in German)
!! the quick search bar must be displayed for this (there is a button in TB)
Is "the quick search bar" also known as the "Quick Filter" bar that appears just above the messages?
Is there any known intraction betwen Nostagy ++ and Quick Folders which is a huge timesaver for me and #2 in productivity enhancements with Nostalgy++ being #1 ?
@DavidR2PA first question: yes Quickfolders: both addons use "legacy code", so it is possible they have problems together. But I do not know of any right now
When I run TB, and kill all add-ons except Nostalgy++ and Quick Filter, the tilde does not work, same error message. Windows 10 Pro, TB 115.3.3 (64bit). I have not tried to change to another key and might not know exactly how to to that anyway.
Even without the tilde functionality, your product is fantastic and your work is greatly appreciated!!!
@DavidR2PA many thanks for the approval.
In quicker quicksearch, it is not tilde but
Ctrl+Alt+B: copy author to quicksearch box Ctrl+Alt+N: copy domain to quicksearch box Ctrl+Alt+H: copy subjectto quicksearch box
Is Nostalgy++ dropping the ~ which used to cycle through To, From, Subject etc and was super easy to use and remember? In any case, Ctrl-Alt-B or Ctrl-Alt-b and CA-N and CA-H don't seem to work for me. I can easily mouse click into the search box or shift-Tab to it and type in what I want so it is a minor issue...
Nostalgy++ 4.1.0 + Quicker Quicksearch 2.6 + TB 115.4.1 + Mac Sonoma 14.0
Neither ` nor any other key configured in Nostalgy++ to "show messages with same sender/subject" do not work. It is possible to use a combination of kbd and mouse to achieve similar, but requires using the mouse and therefore breaks the workflow. Kbd shortcuts Ctrl (Cmd on mac) + Alt (Opt on mac) +[BNH] do work, but:
- if I copy author to quicksearch box, by default it filters the messages where the author is either sender or recipient. That is a major difference from the previous behaviour where ` would immediately filter the messages where current author was the sender only
- there is no good way to clear the filter without using the mouse. Earlier it was possible to hit ESC a couple of times
at the moment, please use my addon quicker quicksearch and these keyboard commands:
In quicker quicksearch, it is not tilde but
Ctrl+Alt+B: copy author to quicksearch box Ctrl+Alt+N: copy domain to quicksearch box Ctrl+Alt+H: copy subjectto quicksearch box
this will come back at a later time, most probably in an extended form that existed as qfb-pivot ca. 20 years ago
