Expression-Search-NG addon conflicts with Quick Search in TB115

Open orwel01 opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

In my environment (Win10,22H2, TB 115.5.2, Expression-Search-NG ver. 4.0.18) the addon conflicts with default Quick Search. According to https://support.mozilla.org/sk/kb/quick-filter-toolbar if you enter some text in Quick search box, option to apply filters to limit your search to the Sender, Recipients, Subject and/or Body of the messages should appear, which appears indeed if Expression-Search-NG is disabled. With this addon enabled, the Buttons for Sender, Recipients, Subject and/or Body filters do not appear. Capture-with addon enabled Capture-with addon disabled

I noticed that, too. According to the description, if you just type in a criteria with no qualifiers, it searches subject/from/to/cc. You don't get a choice to narrow it down as you do with Quick Search. In the Expression Search options, there's a check box labeled "Act as Normal Filter when no tokens found in search string". (That is, "Normal Filter", not "Quick Filter. I don't know of a feature called "Normal Filter".) That implies to me that with that option enabled, you should get the limiting buttons, but you don't. I believe that option isn't working like it should.

If, like me, you like to also have the easy functionality of Quick Search, a solution/workaround is to disable the Expression Search option "Hide Normal Filter". This will bring back a small Quick Search box next to the Expression Search box that behaves as expected. The box is unfortunately small, but functional, and brings back the "Filter Messages By" buttons. You now have both searches available.
