Can't type in search bar, search fails

When I try and type in a search in the search box, the program/extension goes away and then appears to come back and delete some of the letters I've typed.

The search never completes and when it does it has no useful results.

I have to use the built-in thunderbird search which works fine.

I am searching folders which contain approx 11,000 and 41,000 messages, but even with small folders I don't seem to get any useful results.

Intel Mac Ventura: 13.7.5, Thunderbird 128.1.0esr
