Death Stranding Director's Cut crashes when Optiscaler is installed

Open piee-kun opened this issue 1 year ago • 16 comments

Using Epic Games version of Death Stranding Director's Cut, having Optiscaler installed causes the game to not launch, leaves no logs, and nothing in Reliability Report. Using 0.7.0 pre-23, with nvngx.dll named as dxgi.dll

EDIT: Should mention that I replaced libxess with the one from the release, however using the original also causes the aforementioned issue.

Hi,

It's a know issue but thanks for reporting. Will give you a heads up if I can fix it. Meanwhile you can use OptiScaler as nvngx.dll but this will not let you use FG features.

Hi,

Could you try again with this release?

https://github.com/cdozdil/OptiScaler/releases/tag/v0.7.0-pre36

Weird, on second try it launched fine, but crashed when entering Graphics Settings

Hi,

Try deleting setting.ini from game folder (to reset settings)

cdozdil avatar Nov 05 '24 14:11 cdozdil

Game crashes when trying to launch into a save file

piee-kun avatar Nov 05 '24 16:11 piee-kun

Could you share optiscaler.log file?

cdozdil avatar Nov 05 '24 16:11 cdozdil

OptiScaler.log

Sadly, still an issue with latest versions. Game fails to launch with Optiscaler

My game crashes too with a windows that looks the same, but just sometimes when changing the graphical settings a lot or when changing a specific setting of the OptiScaler. If you want more specific information I can try to make the game crash to tell you exactly what I do, when it happens and post the errors, it might help to solve the problem in case it's correlated

Hi,

If you are still interested could you check with latest nightly release?

cdozdil avatar Jan 24 '25 11:01 cdozdil

With the latest nightly release it crashed after I tried to enable FSR2 from the graphic settings:

error.txt

Could you send optiscaler.log?

cdozdil avatar Jan 24 '25 15:01 cdozdil

I triggered the error again since the .log was overwritten. error.txt OptiScaler.log For me it happens when I try to activate FSR2 while in-game, if I do it form the title screen it doesn't crash. There might be other triggers but I haven't tested yet.

Probably using a custom FSR2 implementation. Did you try using Fsr2Pattern=true in nvngx.ini to see if that helps?

hi.

I tried the 3 solutions with the very latest nightly version but DLSS, FSR and XeSS all crashed the game while loading into the game; using AMD GPU.

This mod works following the AMD instructions, launches into the game correctly, but Frame Gen creates a lot of artifacts: https://www.nexusmods.com/deathstranding/mods/68

Following these instructions makes it possible to launch the game with FG: https://github.com/cdozdil/OptiScaler/issues/111

But it seems that this game really doesnt support FG really well, for me it gave me about 20+ frames (100 to 120, not capped) at the cost of severe ghosting, and HudFix simply negates any frame gain, tested DLSS and FSR
