Crashing when trying to get FSR 4 in Red Dead Online

Open dwurgy opened this issue 8 months ago • 3 comments

Game name and version: Red Dead Redemption 2 (specifically Online portion)

Mods and mod versions used OptiScaler v0.7.7-pre9 (Daria) and Fakenvapi v1.2.1

GPU RX 9070 XT

OS Win 11

Used automated or manual install?

  • [x] Automated

If on AMD/Intel and Automated, used DLSS inputs?

  • [x] Yes

Also please mention in description which upscaler inputs are used (which upscaler you selected in game settings). I used DLSS Ultra Quality in game and then swapped into FSR 4 in the Optiscaler menu

Did you check the Wiki?

  • [x] Yes

Please describe the issue and steps to reproduce it

Example: I am using DLSS in game settings and switching it to FSR 4. It will work and register. I will be getting excellent visuals and performance. I am using winmm.dll per the Notes recommendation for RDR2. But then after a few minutes, I keep crashing. It is consistent. I can play for a few minutes and it looks/runs excellent, and then it crashes.

I really want this to work as Red Dead 2 looks horrible without a good upscaler. So blurry and muddy. I am playing Red Dead Online mostly and I do not believe that is the issue as I also mod RDO in order to have a private lobby with my buddies and have never had issues.

Not really interested in debugging a multiplayer with custom server-sided anticheat mechanisms. Only interested in whether this same issue seems to happen in Story mode.

Yes. As I said, it happens in Story as well for me. RDR2 issues with FSR 4 are well documented. Many people have had issues not just me and not just with Red Dead Online.

Same, it works fine until I go to Valentine's main street or Emerald Ranch's fence - immediately crash

You risk being banned when modding online games. It isn't recommended.

Not sure if it's the same issue, but the game Control crashed for me after ~1h of playing with a similar setup. - 9070, FSR4 through Optiscaler

Spoofing to Nvidia seems to cause these weird rendering issues like xmas, disco artifacts, weird colour artifacts etc - might also include the mission crashes. Since DLSS couldn't be exposed without spoofing, Nitec worked on a side project which requires a bit of manual mem patching, but it avoids the spoofing consequences. So far it seems to fix these weird rendering issues on RDR2 (and hopefully crashes).

To try out this new plugin:

  1. Recommended to jump to the latest Nightly build
  2. Download OptiPatcher.asi
  3. Create a plugins folder where Opti is installed and put OptiPatcher.asi in that folder.
  4. Disable Dxgi spoofing in Optiscaler.ini - Dxgi=false
  5. Also change Path to plugins and enable asi loading - Path=plugins and LoadAsiPlugins=true

After this, you should see DLSS exposed in Settings, Opti Overlay should say Spoof: Off above the upscaler, and there shouldn't be any weird artifacts as before - confirmed by 2 testers already.

I did exactly as above described however it is not working in RDR2 for me .I've followed all the steps and tried a lot of different solutions. For assasin screed shadows FSR4 works fine but in RDR2 as soon as i click "change upscaler" i get a screen with a lot "disco" artifcats for a couple seconds (like the debug view) and it crashes. Tried everything i could find, like loading thru .asi with plugins folder etc. Also using fakenvapi etc. Someone knows a fix?

So to be clear the game is running and optiscaler too, its just when i click on "FSR 3.*" as upscaler i get these disco artifacts and crashes.

Running 6800XT

Optiscaler version 0.7.9

EDIT:

So i just found out when i put Fsr4Update=true it doesn't show the disco artifacts but still crashes after 2 seconds.

Tried with DLSS and FSR inputs. Both are crashing.

Someone here was describing the same issue: https://github.com/optiscaler/OptiScaler/issues/248#issuecomment-2708805188
