Navigation boxes incorrectly displayed in mobile view

Open Jaifroid opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Assuming that the standard view of pages scraped by mwoffliner should replicate as closely as possible the "mobile" view of Wikipedia, navigation boxes which should be invisible are now being displayed and inserted in strange locations in recent Wikipedia ZIMs.

Image below shows a side-by-side comparison of an article from wikipedia_en_medicine-app_maxi_2021-04 and the equivalent page from the Wikipedia revision of that article. The navbox for the overview of COVID-19 Pandemic articles is displayed (with poor formatting) whereas it is hidden in the Wikipedia mobile view. Since the mobile view is now the standard view even for desktop display in Kiwix, the poor formatting of this (full-width across the screen) is particularly problematic and interrupts reading of the article.

I would suggest that this navbox should be hidden for narrow (mobile) screen widths and should be displayed right-aligned for larger screen widths, in a collapsed format, as in the desktop Wikipedia style (shown below). NB The navbox should be present in the code, for those readers that can display a "desktop" style, but it should be hidden or appropriately styled according to screen width in mobile view.
