Developer Getting Started

Is there a 'Developer Getting Started' guide?

Basically what I am looking at is - how to get started with the code on a developer's laptop, (it's okay if I have to create multiple VMs). I looked at the Installation Guide. But that's really an overkill to actually have a 2U Server to just getting started.
