Proposal

Wouldn't it be better if at bottom of this page. This github discussion page link will be replaced with slack link, because slack is better place for discussion and asking questions, troubleshooting related issues and help where github discussion is more suitable for discussion that is generally initiated by collaborators about the project.

I am working on this issue, sir. Shall I give the link to Slack or the questions page of Slack?

Also, Shall I change the name to "Discussions" or let it be "OpenTofu Discuss"? @alrs @aj11anuj

Link to general channel of slack will be better as it is more active and it had more user base, and from there anyone can direct the person to right channel as per his question. The link text can be changed to "OpenTofu's Slack Channel"

Okay sir

Sir I raised a PR but can you please tell me how to pass the DCO check? @aj11anuj

Clone the repo on git, remove these 2 commits then make a commit that fixes this issue, and while creating that commit use "git commit -S -m message" and then do "git push --force-with-lease origin branch_name". If your git and GitHub account are connected, and your email at Github is verified then it will surely solve the problem.

Noted.

~~sorry for the intrusion, may I ask the Slack link?~~ https://communityinviter.com/apps/opentfcommunity/opentofu

IMO the link to discussions shall stay for these reasons:

  • github discussions is the instrument designed specifically to address community questions in a transparent way;
  • link to the community slack is present on the website already, no need to duplicate.

I personally agree with @kislerdm on this one. We already have a slack link on the website, and github discusions do hold their own value!

As for raising pull requests. We would love to have some of these discussions before work has been put into creating pull requests so that we can make sure we arrive at a great solution! Please see our contributing guide for more information about our current process: https://github.com/opentofu/opentofu/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md

I would like to keep the GitHub readme with GitHub discsusion, as not everyone using slack and we would like to have transparent discussions over GitHub

Hey everyone, thank you for this issue and the discussion. We have discussed this in the core team and both GitHub Discussions and Slack are a valid platform for the community to ask questions. The issue is marked as accepted and is open for contributions with the addition that the link to GitHub Discussions shouldn't be removed.
