Add info that there are more presets than visible on the screen
Add a node. iD will suggest a few presets - at the top, the last ones used, and the first time you turn on the editor, there will only be about 10 presets.
When I started mapping on OSM, I thought that was all I could choose! Therefore, I suggest adding information at the very end, e.g.
<text>: "These are not all the possibilities. To see more, enter the name of the store or place you are looking for in the search box."
There are more features for lines and landuse to choose, but for nodes there are only a few. I think this information should be in all of them (nodes, ways, areas).
I think something like proposed in #11484 is too distracting.
As the walkthrough tutorial should already teach new users that there are more than just the few displayed presets, this should really just be a small reminder / nudge in the UI that the presets do not end where the list end.
I wouldn't mind something subtle at the end of the list (as suggested above), but the text should be quite toned down… maybe like the following: … use the search box to find more specific feature types..
Alternatively, instead of a text there could simply be a button to load more presets (while searching, this would should additional results if there are any). Even better would be something like a dynamically "endless" scrolling list which displays more and more results as one scrolls down the page.

Me too. As I wrote above, I would be in favor of having the text at the bottom after the user scrolls to the bottom of the list and sees there are no more options.

The endless scrolling list is something that I hate.
