In our setup, we are using STF's API + munin (example: http://demo.munin-monitoring.org/munin-monitoring.org/demo.munin-monitoring.org/) for that. This way, we keep track of devices (total, available, in use) in one graph and battery leves (second graph). Is a similar solution (using an external monitoring tool) okay for you?
