Improve organization homepage UX for power users
When I go to an org homepage (e.g., https://www.oso.xyz/oso or https://www.oso.xyz/optimism), it's almost always because I want to quickly find and open a specific notebook. Today's UX makes this harder than it should be.
I want to go from Notebook to Home, and I still look for something here:
This is what I currently see when I get to the home …
And finally when I'm just in the "Jump Back In" section, I can't scroll beyond 2-3 rows.
Pain Points
-
Onboarding UI when already “onboarded”
- "Getting Started" and "New Features" are distracting for power users / mature orgs
-
Hard to browse notebook previews
- “Jump Back In” only shows 2–3 rows; not scrollable enough (I believe this is a bug currently)
- Notebook previews are nice, but browsing/searching matters more
-
Missing core productivity controls
- Cannot sort by name, last updated, or created date
- No filters or tags support yet
-
Visibility ambiguity
- No clear indicator showing which notebooks are public vs private
-
Navigation friction
- Breadcrumb exists, but I instinctively look to the sidebar for “Home”
- “Notebooks” nav item doesn’t take me to a full notebooks view
- Org name text doesn't link to org home (only the caret expands)
Desired UX
- Skip onboarding UI for orgs with real activity (e.g., >5 notebooks)
- Ability to view all notebooks in one click from sidebar
- Scrollable notebook list with table-like sorting (name, updated, created)
- Visual distinction for public vs private content
- Org name and/or “Notebooks” in sidebar also act as home links
Proposed Actions
- [ ] Hide or collapse Getting Started for orgs past onboarding threshold
- [ ] Make “Jump Back In” a carousel at the top and the full grid/table below (like Google Sheets)
- [ ] Add sort controls (name, last updated, created at)
- [ ] Add visibility icon/badge (public vs private)
- [ ] Make org name and/or “Notebooks” sidebar item link to notebooks home
