Premature EOF with ID: NO-ID

Open RvanVeenendaal opened this issue 2 years ago • 1 comments

While checking https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/onderzoeken/kaartencollectie/NL-HaNA_4.BLF_239?searchKey=4609e9214ef5d3a1a936fead755bbd03 (download 'origineel bestand'), JHOVE 1.26.1 2022-07-14 with JPREG-hul 1.5.3 22-apr-2022 found that it was well-formed and valid. But it also showed me the message 'Vroegtijdig einde van het bestand' ('Premature EOF').

This stuck me as strange, because:

  1. The file has a premature end of file, but is well-formed and valid. What is the reasoning behind this? (Can we safely ignore the message, or is something wrong with the file and does JHOVE not inform us correctly?
  2. There are two identical error messages for Premature EOF: TIFF-HUL-1 and TIFF-HUL-57, why? Are they e.g. the same or are there semantic differences between the two that we should know of?
  3. I expected as message ID e.g. TIFF-HUL-1 or TIFF-HUL-57, but I got NO-ID, is that a bug or a feature?

Thanks, Remco

Thanks @RvanVeenendaal we will investigate this and fix/explain for the upcoming 1.28 if possible. You'll know more by the end of October.
