Italian Summer Holidays - Estimate of End Date in Current Year
Hey there, Italy handles summer holidays in a strange way, where they do not explicitly state the range of summer holidays.
Instead, they just provide the date for the start of lessons and end of lessons. At the time of writing the start of lessons of the current year (2025) is not assigned yet. Therefore, a definite range of the Italian summer holidays can not be given.
However, one can estimate the range of the holidays by taking the start of the lessons from last year and approximating this to the "closest Monday" of the current year. If you were to do this in the API, one could obtain the estimate of the Italian summer holidays. At the moment, it would always look like that there are no summer holidays this year, since only the "end of lessons" date it given.
My question is: Do you plan to add/support this estimate in your data? Or would you expect the consumer of the API to work around this issue?
Hi, thanks for the feedback. Yes, makes sense, I will update this after I have introduced the new "Tags" property, where I can specifiy that this date is "estimated". See: discussions/39
Coming back to this issue: An estimate, as you suggest, would only be very rough. The new school year does not always start on Monday. In this case, I find the specification “EndOfLesson” more precise. Anyone who wants to make an estimate can do so algorithmically, as they wish. Incidentally, we have the same problem in other countries, e.g. in France. So for the moment, it will stay as it is.
