Submit places via text messaging

It would be cool if we could submit a place via text messaging and have it show up on my Shareabouts map.

Agreed. But what would that text message contain? SMS doesn't have any geolocation data, AFAIK. Maybe if the text included an address, there could be some geocoding, but I don't know that Shareabouts supports that either.

This idea seems too underdeveloped to be useful in the issue tracker. Suggest closing.
