New layout for Top Contributors to All Candidates In This Election table
Based on input from the user studies...
- [ ] Label the table: Top 20 Contributors to All Candidates In This Election
- Unclear what the cutoff was
- [ ] Add an explanation beneath table title: "Some contributors gave to one campaign, others to more than one. This list shows the people, companies, and organizations that gave the most money overall in this election. "
- [ ] One column instead of two.
- User was confused about what the second column was
- [ ] Additional margin below each row (perhaps 0.5em) (or another strategy to help visually distinguish a row; perhaps alternating background colors or horizontal rules between them)
- Wrap-around text made it confusing where a row started and ended
- [ ] Make it an ordered-list
- It's a top-20 list, so show the relative rank in the list
- [ ] Contributor name is clickable while rest of row isn't.
- so it's clearer what to click
- [ ] Add data to each row so it follows a format of {
contributor
gave$1234.56
torecipient1, recipient2, ...
}- answers more questions without leaving the context
- rows are nearly self-exlanatory; could be cut-and-pasted or shared on their own
- [ ] Add sparkline to each row to indicate timing of this contributors transactions over the last 18 months
- timing is everything
- [ ] For cumulative contributions of 1.0% or more of all the money raised in this election so far, show (nn.n%) next to the dollar amount.
- e.g. "Unity PAC to Elect Guillen and Campbell Washington for City Council 2014, sponsored by Alameda Labor Council, AFL-CIO $188,175 ( 7.2%)"
- To help understand the disproportionate impact of those contributors
- [ ] Highlight contributors who were also candidates
- To help people notice self-funding
