Defining Early Career Scholars
At the founding meeting we decided to not decide on who is eligible for the Affiliated Early Career Scholars, but to gather information and see who 'self-selects' to join this group. Following discussions in the Executive Committee, this issue is opened to begin gathering information on how "early career" is defined in other contexts, and what should be considered in the context of a global and diverse Open Modeling Foundation.
Here is one possibility to like, edit, or reject:
An early-career scholar is a student at an institution of higher learning or an individual who has been employed professionally for no more than five years after completing a course of study in an institution of higher learning.
Any student (including pursuing a Ph.D.) and professional with not more than five years of professional experience after her first bachelor's or master's degree or after completing her first Ph.D.
An early-career scholar is a student at an institution of higher learning or a scholar with seven years of professional experience after his/her final academic degree.
I support the proposed definition generally and consider three possible revisions on that from chenmin0902. See below.
An early-career scholar is a student at an institution of higher learning or a scholar (- researcher ? -) with seven (- five ?- a seven-year researcher (who could be tenure-tracked) might be improper to be within same type as a PhD student) years of professional experience after his/her final (- highest -) academic degree.
