Welcome to Hacktoberfest at openml-python!
Hi everyone! We are glad to see you are looking to contribute to openml-python
for Hacktoberfest 🎃
Word of warning for 2022: Our unit tests are currently in disarray due to server migration/backend updates. If you are interested in contributing, we strongly encourage you to work on improving the documentation for now as we work to resolve the issues with the unit tests. Thank you for your consideration.
There are two main ways to make sure your efforts will lead to a contribution:
- Find an issue labeled
hacktoberfest
that's interesting to you (not this one 😉). Make sure you understand the proposed changes/problem, please ask any questions you may have before starting! When you start your work on the issue, leave a comment to indicate that (in that issue thread). This will prevent multiple people from addressing the same problem. Then get hacking! - Use the package and read the documentation. Find grammatical or spelling mistakes? Fix them and open a PR! Are things not clear, or do they not work as intended? Open an issue! We will hopefully be able to help you, which in turn could allow you to either fix the problem, or update the documentation. Please remember the Hacktoberfest Quality Guideline. Following quality over quantity, when you find a typo to correct we ask you to read a bit further (e.g. proofread the whole example). This way we can focus our effort on a single high quality PR instead of many small ones 💪 Important: Use this link to read the latest version of the documentation, it includes changes to the documentation that happened after the latest release.
Whichever way you go about your contribution, changes to the repository will always go through a pull request. Please read the contributing guidelines before opening a pull request. Fill in the pull request template when you open a pull request.
Interested in getting more involved? There will a virtual OpenML workshop will be held October 26-30. It is a week long event where we get together to talk about and work on all things OpenML (this includes openml-python
development). Visit OpenML to find out more!
hey @PGijsbers I would like to contribute to this project ..can you please assign it to me?
Hi @nexuspy! Glad to hear! I think there is a bit of miscommunication here. This issue serves as a general welcome message to all. It does not relate to a (code) issue that needs to be fixed.
Please browse through all the hacktoberfest issues (ignore this one) and see if there is one you would like to work on and leave a comment there. Otherwise, try out our package and read the documentation. You can fix grammatical and spelling mistakes. Alternatively you can clarify unclear sections, if you do, please open an issue first indicating what you would like to clarify and why if you want to make sure the PR gets approved.
Retired until next year 👻 👋
A bit late, but if you want to join us for the second half of Hacktoberfest, you're welcome!
