Papers have editors with full name and reviewers with Github handles

Open eschnett opened this issue 5 years ago • 2 comments

I notice that the PDF I am reviewing has the Editor's full name (no Github handle) and the Reviewers with their Github handles (no names given). Is there a reason for this? It's probably important to have the reviewers' Github handles, but adding the full names as well would also be good.

See e.g. https://github.com/openjournals/joss-papers/blob/joss.02011/joss.02011/10.21105.joss.02011.pdf (although the paper might change over time?).

We don't always have full names to go along with github handles for reviewers, but we do always have them for editors. Having said that, I didn't notice this before and am curious what @arfon says about the history of how we list editors and reviewers, and what he thinks we could do better

Thanks for the question @eschnett. As @danielskatz mentioned, the issue here is that we don't have definitive information for the authors and so for now, we simply use the GitHub handles (which we do know).

We could try and use the name from GitHub profiles but this wouldn't always work I suspect.

More generally, reviewer management (e.g. collecting more information about reviewers) is something that we'd like to improve. We have plans to start on this work in a few months.
