Lot of wasted space by burger menu, title and search bar

First of all thanks for the incredible work for the new iOS app!

I just updated my phone (an iPhone SE) and it works smoothly.

Nonetheless, I wanted to share one impression that I immediately had: There is a lot of wasted space at the top of the screen after opening the app. I know that most iPhones have bigger screens nowadays, but I still have the form factor that Steve Jobs preferred: A small iPhone SE:

If I manually scroll down, I still see the same infos, but the screen is used more efficiently as it shows three more lines at the bottom:

So imho the title could always be displayed (in the smaller font) next to the burger menu item and the search bar should be hidden by default (and possibly only shown by scrolling up a bit).

Wdyt?

@kaikreuzer Thank you for the positive feedback. As of iOS 11 large titles are a standard feature of many apps. See for instance Mail, Settings, Messages apps. I just checked that the title size is exactly identical in those apps as it is in openhab app. We could investigate in your suggestion for small titles and not visible search bar as the default behaviour on devices with small screen sizes

I think it's all about the SideMenu’s call icon. It visually eats up a lot of space and looks alien. Maybe it would be better to make it smaller. Or even think about moving the menu to tab bar? The same can be said about the lines Group. The strings in the native iOS UI do take up a bit more space, but due to the smaller font with transparency, it looks much more compact.

Indeed, I didn't notice that so far...

Imho, this could be the default for devices of any screen size - imho the search is not a frequently used operation and thus should be ok to hide it for regular use.

Right, that's the one that I called "burger menu" - I agree that it looks a bit bold and alien.

That would be great, andit would also be great if the user is able to enable/disable the search bar in settings or choose between normal and compact display if you want the font size and burger menu added to this to. Personally i don't think i will use the search bar while i know it is a great feature that other people like.

I found initially a search bar very interesting. I recently counted ~650 items in my system, so 'searching for' instead of 'navigating to' could be useful. But then I realized, that the newly implemented search only searches through a rather short page (I try to break pages into two, when the screen is 'full'). Therefore, the search result should include ALL items from the current sitemap.

+1 for having the search hidden by default, until you "pull down" to show it.

I don't mind that extra "blank space" since that gets populated by the back button when you go into Text item that contains sub items.
