Feasibility of supporting .NET, Java, etc through the MATLAB Compiler SDK
Please include a short description of problem here Currently OpenCobra is not opened to .NET and java programmers
Through the MATLAB Compiler SDK, this toolbox could potentially be made available to a broader developers/data scientists that come from other disciplines that have the potential to communicate the impact of this research to a wider general public through technologies such as VR/AR.
I urge the community of researchers here allocate some effort to bridge/narrow the gaps needed to bring the state of scientific advancement to "time to general public" driven by e.g. AR/VR/cloud technologies (that mostly use e.g. cross platform .NET Core framework [C#] => write once but deploy to many platforms: Android, iOS, MacOS, Linux, Windows etc )
As reviewed here: Reference: Creation and analysis of biochemical constraint-based models: the COBRA Toolbox v3.0
Other COBRA implementation with more emphasis on GUI and C++/java e.g. SurreyFBA (2011) is available for the above purpose, however it is not as up-to-date to the latest algorithms found in the latest version of COBRA Toolbox 3.0.
This can potentially be addressed through the integration of the MATLAB Compiler SDK to create e.g. .NET DLLs that would support the development of more GUIs to enable more scientists to access the the latest state of the OpenCOBRA.
Hi Jim, making a compiled version of the COBRA toolbox is something we are considering. However, for the moment, the code is already compatible with Linux, MacOS and Windows. Regards, Ronan
