custom key mappings + maps and media player in physical keys

My question is, if there's a possibility to make more physical key functionality(for example shortcut to maps and media player) and mapping our own keys to androidauto actions. For example I have up/down buttons on my custom keyboard, but since they are almost useless in androidauto, i would like to map them to other functionality like maps or music player(these actions aren't in openauto yet but I've seen it in genuine headunits so they should be possible to implement I guess??).

It would need tweaking from the aasdk and OpenAuto side, and yes, once OpenAuto implements that, it should be easy to add support on the crankshaft side. Let me see what is needed to enable those features.
