Icons in custom buttons instead of a label

So I just made a button in the Crankshaft NG mainscreen. But I can't seem to find out if its possible to have a icon (png) instead of the label (only text). Is it possible to add an icon? And if so is it also possible to change the icon when activated? I want a button to start recording and if is activated the icon should change to red or something like that.

I don't think Crankshaft has support for it right now, but it can be done. It would need some changes to the code.
