netIOB/COB visualization to replace basal-only rendering

With SMB, people often get frustrated/concerned that they're not getting enough insulin when they see zero temps in the NS basal rendering, as it's difficult to mentally combine the SMB bolus bubble visualization with the NS basal rendering one into a holistic mental picture of how much insulin is (and should be) given. As an alternative, we might want to build in real-time netIOB and COB visualizations that can replace or augment the NS basal rendering. These could be similar to the ones already generated by NS reports. When both netIOB and COB renderings are overlaid, they can be scaled by the user's carb ratio to provide a quick visual check of whether enough insulin is on board to cover the carbs on board.

Let's use this issue to discuss what kind of visualization we'd like to make available for SMB use, and then we can open a Nightscout cgm-remote-monitor issue when we're ready to build it.

Hi Scott

I agree with this, it would be good for this to built in to either xdrip or nightscout, I'm on SMB_always which works well for me but makes the nightscout basal profile unrepresentative as you say. I turned off SMB for three weeks before my hospital appointment so that I could better demonstrate my graphs to my consultant.

Sorry to dig up an old issue, but I wondered if there had been any work in this area? Unfortunately I wouldn't know where to start...

No, this hasn’t gotten much interest yet.

A shame. We could have an additional render option for the insulin-on-board perhaps, which I think I've seen on androidAPS.
