Evaluate GraphicsMagick as alternative to ImageMagick
GraphicsMagick can be used as a drop-in replacement for ImageMagick, i.e. the only change required would be calling
gm convert ...
instead of
convert ....
ImageMagick strives to be a swiss army knife, while GraphicsMagick is much more focused on image manipulation. As a result, ImageMagick has much more dependencies when building.
The latter is e.g. important for rolling distributions like Tumbleweed which rebuilds recurrently. Having more dependencies leads to triggering rebuilds more often, and packages depending on daps have to be build late in the chain.
Good point, seems reasonable.
However, SUSE internally we need to build for different products and architectures. GraphicsMagick unfortunately is not available for e.g. SLES, so I only could add GraphicsMagick as an alternative to ImageMagick.
This currently looks like much effort for little gain... .
