Artnet

Hi! This is a really exciting addon to me. Rendering shows with lighting fixtures is such a pain currently!! I'd love to help test it, but I'm not much of a coder.

I have a grandMA3 Lite (v1.6.3.7) plugged into my MacBook running Monterey 12.1 (which is seeing Artnet) but Blender DMX doesn't seem to see it at all. It appears to be stuck on "Opening Socket" in the Artnet tab. It is just running a cat5 line from the desk to an ethernet-USBC adapter in the 10.x.x.x region.

I've tried changing the IP but that's about all I can think of to try to receive the ArtNet (just looking at Universe 1 address 1) but it's just frozen on "Opening Socket". It then crashes Blender when I try to close the window or try to disable or re-enable ArtNet.

Hi @tesslights! I hope I can help with that, but might I suggest you create 3 separate issues (2 + this one):

  1. Keep this one with the current title. Better documentation is needed: I agree! The wiki page about it is currently empty. As a non-coder, this is definitely an issue you could help me with. Once you get it working, you could write it based on other pages that are already done.

  2. Open an issue about the GDTF file, and attach it to the issue description so I can test it and release a patch for blenderDMX.

  3. Open another issue about problems with your console, describe the model, how it is wired to the computer, and what have you tried.

This helps other people search for help when they need, and also allows us to flag each issue as "closed", to keep track of what needs to be done. Let's make it work on these other issues, then we come back here and close this documentation issue together, sounds right?

Copy that! I've changed them around a bit so there are separate issues. Once we are up and running I will help write something in the wiki to help others succeed here.

Please describe your setup, answering the following questions (plus whatever comes into mind):

  • What console model are you using?
  • How is it wired to the computer? (Ethernet, Wifi, is it going through some router, etc)
  • Are you sure the ArtNet is reaching your computer? (Artnetominator or other ArtNet monitor, or even another ArtNet visualizer)
  • Which IP are you choosing from the dropdown menu on blenderDMX?

  • grandMA3 Lite (running mode 3 v1.6.3.7)
  • ethernet into an adapter (with proper IP settings, as my artnetominator is seeing artnet from the desk) into my laptop
  • using artnet preferred 10.0.0.1

I tried also running grandMA2 onPC using the loopback IP 127.0.0.1 to no avail.

So my question is, what was your successful artnet setup, so that I can try to replicate it?

I haven't tried it with an external controller yet, so my setup is basically a loopback interface. Someone reported being able to reproduce it with QLC+, so software-to-software doesn't seem to be a problem.

Given you're probably the first one trying this setup, I guess a better way for us to interact and work this one out might be the Discord server, feel free to join and call me there. I might need screenshots to guide you better, but we'll surely make it work.

I have the same problem as you! I don't know how to make the IP address in the DMX plug-in automatically obtain the IP address of the LAN in the computer. As long as the IP address in the LAN can be captured, the external lighting console can be smoothly linked.
