[ Texture Pack Issue ] Steam Deck Freezes or Reboots When Recompiling with OpenGoal Launcher
When attempting to recompile Jak 1 or Jak 2 from the OpenGoal Launcher on the Steam Deck, especially in Jak 2 when large HD texture packs over 4GB in size are installed, the resources become saturated, and the Steam Deck either freezes or automatically reboots. The operation never completes successfully. This appears to be an issue specifically related to the texture packs. However, moving the folder /active/jak2/data/custom_assets/jak2/texture_replacements to another directory allows the update to complete successfully without any crashes.
Steps to Reproduce:
Launch the OpenGoal Launcher.
Attempt to recompile Jak 1 or Jak 2.
Ensure that large HD texture packs over 4GB in size are installed (especially for Jak 2).
Wait for the recompilation process to start.
The system becomes saturated and either freezes or restarts.
As a workaround, move the folder /active/jak2/data/custom_assets/jak2/texture_replacements to another directory.
The recompilation completes successfully without crashing.
Expected Behavior:
The recompilation process should complete without causing the system to freeze or reboot.
Actual Behavior: The recompilation process with HD texture installed ( 4 GB ) causes the system to become unresponsive and either freeze or restart automatically. The operation never completes successfully unless the workaround is applied (moving manuallythe hd texture folder).
Version:
OpenGoal v0.2.25
Additional Information:
The issue occurs specifically with large HD texture packs over 4GB in size, especially for Jak 2. Moving the texture folder manually to another directory resolves the issue, allowing the update to complete successfully.
Massive texture packs are known to cause issues and there are warnings in the launcher alerting users to such issues. What you've done is removed the texture packs from your game allowing the game to compile.
