'Postcode' field passes the empty field forward when putting a number or letter in a field the user missed the first time around

From user research done in April 2024:

When a user misses adding a number or letter in the 'Postcode' field (see screenshots in 'steps to reproduce') and wants to fix that mistake, the 'empty' field jumps one to the right, erasing the field next to the previously empty field.

This confuses the user, and in a worst case scenario, the users misses it altogether and doesn't know that the value in 'Postcode' is not valid at all, only to discover that when they submit the form. Then, when they fix it again, the empty space moves forward again, and the user is confused and frustrated once more.

Stappen om te reproduceren / Steps to reproduce

1. Open form and go to page with 'Postcode' field

2. Fill in value, but forget one field

3. Add value in forgetten field

Verwacht gedrag / Expected behavior

Expected behaviour:

The 'Postcode' is now properly filled.

Actual behaviour:

The next field is now empty.
